It’s been a week of those for me. \u00a0Realizations that my almost 40-year-old body cannot exist on 3 hours of sleep and amazing amounts of caffeine and sugar. \u00a0Realizations that it’s okay to say “No, I can’t do that tonight, because I’m exhausted.”<\/p>\n

Realizations that I don’t write like everyone else, and that’s okay.<\/p>\n

It took me a long time to realize that last one, and I’m still working on it. \u00a0I am kind of addicted to writing books (okay, let’s be honest – I’m addicted to books, period) and one of the things that a lot of books say is that if you want to be a professional author, you should be working on multiple projects, because that’s where the money is. \u00a0You should have something in edits, something in first draft and something in preplanning, at the very least, at all times.<\/p>\n

You know what? \u00a0My brain, she don’t work that way.<\/p>\n

I realized this, yet again, as I was trying to figure out why I was having so many issues getting into the world of\u00a0Baker.<\/em> \u00a0You know why? \u00a0Because I’m still firmly in Sapph’s world and that world, which is full of ghosts, is VERY different from Abby’s world of sympathetic magic. \u00a0I just can’t be in both worlds at once.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n So I’m not going to try to. \u00a0And I’m not going to try and write what other people think I should write. \u00a0Yes, I like paranormal romances. \u00a0But I’m not sure that’s what I want to write (which might be why\u00a0Midsummerland<\/em> isn’t going anywhere). \u00a0I like ghosts. \u00a0I like dark magic. \u00a0I like Schrodinger.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Which means there’s a new plan. \u00a0(Bear with me. \u00a0There might be a new plan every week.) \u00a0I’m going to finish Sapph’s rewrite, and then start working on Schrodinger’s next adventure. \u00a0After that? \u00a0I’m not sure. \u00a0I kind of want to write\u00a0Faerytale Princess<\/em>. \u00a0But I also kind of want to write something TOTALLY different – like, say, epic space opera. \u00a0With\u00a0Spelljammer<\/em>-type pirate ships. \u00a0Flying on the Cosmic Web. \u00a0(Yes, this has been in my brain for a while). \u00a0I also have an idea for a darker urban fantasy, involving elves, goblins and a yet-unnamed third magical race and the UN. \u00a0It’s complicated. \u00a0But fun. \u00a0Did I mention Oberon goes nuts in it? \u00a0Yeah, that too.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n We’ll see. \u00a0Let’s finish Sapph first.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" It’s been a week of those for me. \u00a0Realizations that my almost 40-year-old body cannot exist on 3 hours of sleep and amazing amounts of caffeine and sugar. \u00a0Realizations that it’s okay to say “No, I can’t do that tonight, because I’m exhausted.” Realizations that I don’t write like everyone else, and that’s okay. …<\/p>\n
