(metrics) Into the city, at least

1240 words today, and Heroine has made it into the city. Now, I just have to get her past the demons, into the Hero’s arms, and get her clothes off.

Piece of cake, but not tonight.

(metrics) Love in the age of apocalypse…

Nah, too cheesy a title. 😀

800 words tonight on Rebirth, which is my story for EalC. It’s coming along well, especially now that we have some EROTICA in the first part. Yeah, I know, I know.

More tomorrow. Now, I need sleep.

(writing/personal) Realizing certain truths that we know to be self-evident…

I have had an ephiphany.

I have these once in a while, and while I’ve heard they are supposed to be wonderfully uplifting and illuminating, mine tend to be more of the clue-by-four to the forehead kind. And this really was. It was the result of several conversations from the past few weeks, and the diagnosis of my migraines as stress-related (I know, shocking, huh?). Mostly, though, it was me realizing that despite everything, I wasn’t happy.

Writing used to make me happy. Writing used to be a joy. Now, it has been a chore, or worse, something to dread. I hate that. I love to write.

I work 40 hours a week, with an hour commute each way. My job is very demanding, because I’m working with people’s money, their retirement savings, and given the markets recently, it’s been a bit….challenging. It’s not a job that I can sit back and wing through. It’s exhausting. I used to come home, though, determined to write, because that’s what writers, REAL writers, do, right? And then I’d write about 250 words of crap, delete it later, feel like a failure because all the other writers I know are churning out words, and books, and stories, and they’ve got them up on Kindle, and are getting agents and deals and even if they aren’t doing any of that, they’re actually FINISHING things, which I haven’t done in months….and it was a downward spiral. And then the clue-by-four hit.

I don’t have to do what they do.

You have no idea how freeing that statement was. I don’t have to pursue agents. I don’t have to publish to Kindle, or Smashwords. I don’t have to go to cons, and promote.

I can just write, and enjoy it.

I will be at CapClave in October (barring anything unforeseen), and then I think the next con I will be doing is Balticon in May. I’m going to finish up Spells, turn in Rites, and write Rebirth (the short erotica). And then, I’m just going to write.

Today, however, I have other things to do as well. I need to clean up, since we’re hosting the official afterparty next weekend after Baronial Birthday, and I need to cook. And there’s WoW in my future. As well as erotica.

Think I’ll do the to-do list in a separate post – or just on my computer screen. This got longer than I wanted.

(personal/to-do) Getting ready for Harper’s

Oh, I have so much to do! And it’s already 6:30 pm on Thursday! And I have to work tomorrow! *flail*

Okay, now that I have that out of my system, here’s the list of stuff to do tonight/tomorrow morning:
– Cook chicken for Saturday
– Cook steak for Saturday
– Cut veggies for Saturday

– Print out menu for weekend
– Laundry
– Pack garb box
– Pack food in bags
– Pack cooler (friday morning)
– Pack kitchen box
– Letter scroll (Friday morning)
– Court list
– Zucchini bread
– Write erotica

I think that’s it. No, I really don’t plan on sleeping very much tonight, why do you ask?

(to-do) Batten down the hatches, boys, a storm’s coming through!

Yep, Tropical Storm Irene has finally wallowed her way up here to New England. Yay. She’s supposed to blow through by tonight – I can’t wait. My head can’t wait. *sigh*

But I’ve been inactive pretty much all weekend, and although my head still hurts, I’m BORED. So today, I’m going to do what I can, while the rain pours down, the winds howl, and my cats cower in terror. And my head throbs.

To-Do:
– Fold and put away laundry in living room
– Wash and dry laundry in the cellar
– Make quiche in the crockpotIn the crockpot! This is a test recipe for Harper’s – hope it works! We’ll know in about 8 hours!
– Food plan for the week
– Cook for the week
– Write erotica piece
– Bake zucchini muffins

There might be more, but that’s all that’s going on the list.

(metrics) Yes, I know what time it is.

Writers don’t sleep, didn’t you know that?

361 words on the new beast tonight. Erotica, and what’s the first line? “Beneath her, the city still burned.” Yep, it’s a Val story.

To be fair, the setting is post-apocalyptic cityscape, so I can be forgiven burning cities. Right?

(writing) Craft stuff, creativity and editing

It’s been a good day. I’m tired, but it’s still been a good day.

I didn’t get stuff done in the house (guilt) but I did get stuff down out of the house. Got the shopping for this weekend done, got the Pumpkin’s birthday present, swam a mile and saw my nutritionist. Tonight, since he’s watching the football game downstairs, I’ll stay upstairs and write, listen to the Red Sox and get some stuff done up here.

To do tonight:
– Blurb to Erin
– Column to Sue
– Edit stories for Spells
5 stories edited! Go me!
– Send email to PG
– Put laundry away in living room
– Dishes

That looks good. I’ll go grab a cup of tea during the inning break.

(to-do) The last day of vacation

Sigh. It’s a sad, sad day, the last day of vacation.

But I’ve had a wonderful vacation. I finished the plot summary for the Sapph novella (which needs a title) and started writing the first draft. I went to Pennsic and relaxed with friends and my wonderful hubby. Now, I’m home, dealing with my CSA haul (and what a haul it is this week!) and cooking for the week, since I dive back into work with a vengeance tomorrow. OT on my first Monday back FTW! (Not.)

I’m not really too worried about tomorrow – we get to wear jeans, and they’re feeding us. So today is cleaning and cooking, getting back into the feel of things, and tonight, some editing and writing. I’m thinking that next Sunday, I’m going to start actually working through The Artist’s Way. I’ve read the book several times, but I’ve never actually done more than morning pages. I think I’m ready to start doing the actual coursework.

But not today. Today is cooking and cleaning:
– Clean kitchen
– Put away CSA haul
– Make shephard’s pie for the week
– Do meal plan for the week
– Set up daily calendar for the week (yes, I’m trying to get more organized)
– Get mail together for tomorrow
– Paint fingernails
– Clean dining room table off
– Make zucchini bread? This is a no right now. I’m getting tired.
– Update Port Strangeways and send out the menu for Harpers
– Ball game at 3 pm

There may be more, but we’ll see. I might not get that all done. 😀

Now, more tea and cleaning the kitchen.

Edited to add: Oh yes, there will be writing tonight as well. Just not right now.

(to-do) Final packing for Pennsic!

We leave later tonight! So, of course, I’m doing last minute packing stuff.

Here’s the to-do list:
– Cat food in the freezer for Mom
– Fold and put away laundry in living room
– Finish laundry down cellar

– Pack garb boxes
– Pack project bag (dress for Kate, dress for me, Brian’s tunic, notebooks, pens, netbook, cords)
– Pack food stuffs box (feast gear for 2, tea bags)
– Pack car (garb boxes, food box, blankets, pillows, scroll case, project bag)

I think that’s it. I hope that’s it. 😀

(metrics) Still plugging away

299 more words on the Advent summary, and the final edits FINALLY started on Spells. It’s about damn time. Oh, and morning pages done too.

Now, bed.
